description
Oil on canvas, 130 x 170 cm, Paris, Musée du Louvre. This artwork is typical of this painter who specialised in perspective and trompe l'oeil views (note the three doors and three rooms in a row, which indicate a narrative staggered in time and space, cf. Yalçin). This painting includes motifs that are sometimes equivocal, such as the keys, the abandoned slippers (those of the mistress of the house or of an idle servant), a sign of a badly kept household, the unused broom, the candle, the book, etc.
